This novel is not an experimental text, and not the deepest tale ever told, but it is a good tale well told. The writing is clean and well-crafted. The plot moves smoothly without waste. The story blends the struggle to come to grips with family drama along with dangerous resistence to the Nazis in occupied Norway. It is a bit more ambitious than, say, John Grisham, but not as ambitious or as difficult as, say, Knausgaard's My Struggle.
