Two Berry College students have been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.
The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsors this scholarship for students with financial needs to study or intern abroad. This year, Emma Molyneux and Sara Alexander, both of Rome, received scholarships.
Alexander applied to the program to support her study abroad to Peru.
“As I researched the program, I loved Gilman’s stance of supporting non-traditional and high-need students, and how it stood out by uniquely aligning with my passions,” Alexander said. “When I learned about the Peru international experience, one that focuses on helping children with disabilities through psychological sciences application while being immersed in a Spanish-speaking environment, I knew I had to go.”
Alexander will travel to Lima and Cusco Peru as part of Berry’s Summer International Program and take psychology classes and visit two specialized learning centers.
Animal science major Molyneux will study in Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa, and take animal science courses.
“With a passion in animals and a connection with South Africa through family, I was very excited to hear about this opportunity,” she said.
